Ten of the world’s best windsurfers from eight countries completed a demanding competition in Kerry, Ireland during the first mission of the Red Bull Storm Chase — the most-challenging windsurfing contest of all time. Despite recorded storm-force gusts of up to 74 knots (137kmh) and fierce 20-ft waves, after possibly the most radical day in windsurfing history the top 6 surfers move on to the second mission. It were Victor Fernandez (ESP), Thomas Traversa (FRA), Julien Taboulet (FRA), Robby Swift (GBR), Marcillio Browne (BRA) and Dany Bruch (GER) who showed the best overall impression displaying superior wave selection and super high aerials. These six now get to wait for the next big storm to hit until March 22. The four best riders of the second round advance to the third mission scheduled from 22nd July onwards. The winner of the third and final Red Bull Storm Chase mission will then be crowned the “king of the storm chase”. © Red Bull Media House

Shot this with my good friend Kish (The Beardy man) in the Mentawai Islands, on a surf trip just off the west coast of Sumatra, Indonesia. This was a big Day for Kish, as the beardy man had been growing this mass amount of hair for one and a half year.
The concept is to show there are no exceptions when it comes to Movember… You got to start from scratch and build the beast up!
I created this film in my spare time with the hope to create some awareness about Movember and testicular cancer, so if you enjoyed the film, then kindly follow the link to my “Mospace” Where you can donate towards Movember, a charity for prostate cancer.
mobro.co/4525065
“Movember is all about bringing back the moustache, having fun and doing it for a serious cause; men’s health, specifically prostate cancer and testicular cancer. Mo Bros commit to growing a moustache for the 30 days of Movember, and in doing so become walking and talking billboards for the cause. The moustache is our ribbon, the symbol by which we generate conversations, awareness and raise funds for men’s health”
So right now its 07:30 in the morning and im sitting a ridiculously hot hotel room in central vietnam with the Sunnie Girl sleeping away. I have not found much time for the internet as of yet but I got a little gap here to express what I am doing here.

SO WHY AM I HERE??? ‘Cause its epic and travelling is amazing) We have been in Vietnam for almost two weeks now and still have another three and a half months left to find our way down to indonesia. I have about 30kg with me which is about 7 items of lightweight cloths and the rest being camera equipment. A canon 5d mkii, a Canon 16-35 2.8, a 24-70 2.8. a 100mm macro 2,8, a 200mm prime 2.8, 2x converter, heavy tripod, glide track, 2 x Go hero HD 2, a Matt box (kindly sponsored by Wayne Kinney at shoot 35, a bunch of Batteries, memory cards and much much more.

WHY HAVE I BROUGHT SO MUCH KIT WITH ME?? ‘Cause it comes everywhere with me but on the specific adventure I have decided to make a feature Length Surf film. This will not go online, it will be exclusive to film festivals and DVD (Unless it sucks and nobody wants in there festival or shop shelves;)

Below you can here more about the project and how you can get involved

Project overview and a bit about Mark Waters:

Mark Waters is an award winning filmmaker specialising in lifestyle, action sports, music and sustainability. He has been lucky enough to work all around the world directing shooting, lighting and editing documentaries, short films, music videos and promos. He has worked with some big name musicians as well as some of the world’s largest action sports brands on both the TTR World Snowboarding Tour and the ASP World Surfing Tour.
Film making has been a natural progression for Mark since his mid teens. A life spent on the ocean riding waves inspired him to grab a camera and document these experiences. His love for the ocean inspired him to travel the world, where he spent 5 years documenting everything he experienced. He explains that his biggest inspiration is life itself and he sees the world as his classroom, with experiences as his textbooks. His style could be explained as organic, as his love for nature and natural light drives most of his films.
After residing in the UK for the past 3 years working on his art, he has decided to free himself from daily routine and head East for 4 months where he plans to create a film that involves all that has inspired him… with the direction taking a natural progression, the film will highlight culture, community, portraits, landscapes, time-lapse with the life of travel and surf guiding the direction… In a nutshell – a visual journey documenting the life of freedom and travel as well as all the beauty that comes with it – with the idea of surf being at the roots

Brief:
No pre-direction, plot or actors. It’s simply a cinematic journey, inspired by the natural progression taking place on an overland journey from Vietnam to Bali, covering; Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Malaysia and Northern Sumatra (including the Mentawai islands) ending in the South islands on Indonesia
The film will use creative cinematography to recreate the experience presented through travel, featuring culture, tribes, landscape, buzzing third world cities, jungles, mountains, volcanoes, rain forests and pristine beaches. It will also feature ceremonies from different tribes around these parts.
The style of cinematography will be very photographic, where composition and symmetry will flow throughout. It will be a smooth cinematic style with most shots being composed with tripods and dollies, while featuring beautiful time lapses, human portraits, water shots (surf, ocean, lakes rivers) with the edit style being rhythm based, cut to the cinematic soundtrack that will compliment what you are seeing to enhance the feel.

Sideline Project:
There will be a sideline viral project going on, which will be more of a diary, releasing shorts featuring the more adventurous side of the experience. They will be 3-5 minutes in length, featuring inspirational encounters with travellers/locals, day-to-day experiences, Problems along the way and self-portrait stories. This will be used as a marketing tool to draw people in and advertise the main feature that will go into post production once arriving back in the UK.

Aim:
The aim of this film is to be a 45min+ visual feast, that will hit film festivals worldwide. As it will have no distinct genre, it will fit a variety of categories such as documentary, travel, surf, adventure etc. It is a film that Mark has been dreaming of creating for some time and his hopes are set high, to win festivals across the planet whilst at the same time being a canvas to demonstrate his art to the world.

Inspiration:
The film concept was inspired from a life of surf and travel. Mark Waters (Director, cinematographer and editor) grew up in Cape Town, where he spent every opportunity floating around in the ocean, riding waves and embracing every minute. His love for the ocean inspired him to travel the world in search for perfect waves. He has now travelled to over 30 countries and every continent. This lifestyle inspired him to document these experiences, where he went on a pursuit to learn the art of filmmaking.
Mark is now a filmmaker by trade, where he works all around the world directing, shooting, lighting and editing, documentaries, award winning short films and music videos. He now specialises more so in action sports (mainly surf and snow) as well as music, lifestyle and sustainability.
Mark believes that everybody should experience travel and all that comes with it, so his plan is to create a cinematic experience for everybody to see and feel this lifestyle from the comfort of their home with the hope to inspire the viewers to get out into the world and see it for real.

Budget:
Currently, I am funding the film from my own pocket as I decided to go for Soul Vs Commercial,. It may come down to the need of some sponsorship at some pint with regards to tying up the ends with music and post production time but this is not something I am to concerned about right now. I am looking for affiliates but this is more so to sponsor me with equipment to produce the project. I am pretty satisfied with my kit right now but two things I could do with, to add some priceless value to my project would be a water housing for my canon 5d mkii and a motion rail for motion time-lapse etc. In exchange, I will highlight all affiliates and speak about your products throughout the viral process of the film and credit you throughout the entire project. As an affiliate, I will not be asking for financial backing to fund the project, only for products that may help push the film forward. If you are interested in being a part of the project then please contact me to discuss any queries that you may have. So far Shoot 35 and Northcore have been kind enough to support me with some products in which I am truly grateful for. If you like the sound of this project, then your support would be very welcome. Support comes in may different ways so even if you dont have any products then just drop me a line because kind words go a long way. Also on the look out for some soul surfers that will be in indo between mid July – Mid September so if thats you or you no any body that fits the description then feel free to get in touch.

“The yin and yang of a trip. The highs and the lows. The epic rides and the epic falls. Surfing isn’t a easy game to get right, once in a lifetime 50 ft faces followed by a endless search for shelter. Tides reveal dry reefs, squalls break promises. Rain dampens enthusiasm, talk of hidden secrets abound but the wind in it’s infinite wisdom keeps them just that, secret. There’s no urgency yesterday’s euthoria still burns. Another trip another day. No fathoms left to fall.”

Client: O’Neill
Position: Director, editor, additional camera op

This was a film I directed and edited for O’Neill. The event was part of the TTR world snowboarding tour and was rated a 6* event being the highest rated event out there. Davos, switzerland pulled in some of the heaviest snow in years, which made contest conditions a little hard but filmmaking a lot more interesting.

There were 2 teams on this production… there was the live team which consisted of around 10 cameras shooting the action during the semis and finals and there was my team which consisted of three operators (including myself) and 2 editors. My was my role to create the story, shoot the more stylised stuff and direct this main lifestyle show and the daily web highlights.

The event was 5 days so the visuals were shot within this timeframe and the edit was complete 6 days after the event, so not much time to achieve perfection but none the less im happy with the edit;)

Christoph Fritschi and Tom Mandl were my operators whilst Tobias Steinigeweg and Nils Bade were cutting the daily highlights. Juergen Thaller was the colourist.

Words from O’Neill.com:

O’Neill is stoked to announce the release of the full recap video from the O’Neill Evolution 2012 – the maximum-rated TTR contest that kick started the New Year in spectacular style in Davos, Switzerland.

With record snowfalls blanketing the Swiss Alps at the start of the year, the O’Neill Evolution saw many of the world’s best men and women snowboarders throwing down next-level tricks on the Big Air and rail set-up before venturing up the Jakobshorn for epic, bottomless powder runs.

Go behind the scenes at the event and enjoy exclusive interviews with O’Neill team riders Seb Toots, Fredrik Evensen, Jeremy Jones and Celia Miller, as well as head course shaper Marc Brunner and head judge Thierry Monay.

In the face of insanely challenging conditions, the event still went down as one of the most progressive contests in history with countless double cork variations on show. Come the end of the nighttime finals, Canadians Mark McMorris and Spencer O’Brien took home the titles.

Kick back for the next 30 minutes and find out what makes the O’Neill Evolution one of the biggest snowboard contests on the planet.

The Canon EOS 5D Mark III specs have finally been released. Plenty of amazing upgrades for Filmmakers like myself. Not as much upgrades as I would have like to have seen. Like the 5d mk II its utilises a full frame sensor but now offers higher frame rates for shooting slow motion… unfortunately 50/60fps is only available at 720p. The new DIGIC 5+ processing technology offers improved image quality removing all moire and aliasing problems that the mk II has. This is a massive bonus for me specially as the the presence of moiré, false colour and other problems that the MK II has, have been eliminated. Moiré is a nightmare for shooting surf, as it shows up pretty bad on water.
Unfortunately, it still doesn’t offer clean HDMI out. That means there is still no way to record video on an external device. It’s a bit disappointing considering Nikon provides clean HDMI out on their D4 and D800, but again, I think this was to be expected.

The EOS 5D Mark IIIbuilds on the performance of the legendary EOS 5D Mark II, offering improved speed, greater resolution, enhanced processing power and extended creative options for bothstills and Full HD movies – providing unparalleled artistic freedom for the most demanding photographers. From Canon Europe, here is the extended promotional video for the EOS 5D Mark III (in 720p high-definition), showing off the camera’s video capabilities with a game of Radball (soccer on bicycles)! Pre-orders are being taken at: http://bhpho.to/5DmkIII Follow the User Group at these integrated feeds: On Facebook – http://facebook.com/eos5DmkIII On Twitter – http://twitter.com/eos5DmkIII On Vimeo – http://canonhd.info Incorporating feedback from photographers worldwide, the EOS 5D Mark III offers improved performance in virtually every area. A new 22.3 Megapixel (MP) full-frame sensor offers the ideal balance of resolution for stills and HD movies and up to 6 frames per second (fps) shooting, whilst a 61-point AF system and 63-zone metering provide greater speed, flexibility and accuracy. Powered by the latest DIGIC 5+ processing technology, the EOS 5D Mark III also features enhanced video functions, offeringimproved image quality alongside greater audio control – redefining creative possibilities for photographers and amateur videographers alike. “The EOS 5D Mark III represents a big step forward for the EOS 5D series” said Kieran Magee, Marketing Director, Professional Imaging, Canon Europe. “The EOS 5D Mark II is an exceptional camera and we’ve listened carefully to feedback from its passionate community of users to improve performance in every area. This camera has been designed to meet virtually any creative challenge – it’s faster, more responsive and features the tools to adapt to everything from studio photography to creative videography, while producing results of the highest quality.”

Enhanced performance

With its comprehensively upgraded specification, the EOS 5D Mark III is the ideal toolfor the growing number of photographers shooting both stills and movies. It incorporates a number of the features launched with Canon’s revolutionary EOS-1D X,providing vastly improved performance, flexibility, handling and durability. The camera’s newly-developed 22.3MP full-frame sensor provides increased resolution and finer detail, enabling the capture of a wide range of scenes, from sweeping landscapes to beautiful portraits. Higher speed continuous shooting also offers expanded creative possibilities. With an increased 8-channel read out, the camera comfortably handles a maximum full resolution speed of up to 6fps in bursts of 18 RAW images or over 16,000 JPEGs1, without the need for additional accessories. Additionally, the sensor’s advanced architecture offers a huge native ISO range of 100-25,600, expandable to 102,400, making it possible to capture clean, high quality pictures, even in extreme low-light conditions. The EOS 5D Mark III utilises the same 61-point wide-area AF system as the flagship EOS-1D X, providing exceptional sensitivity, precision and speed. One of the most advanced AF systems currently available, it features an impressive 41 cross-type points and five dual cross-type points, providing unsurpassed accuracy across the frame. The customisable AF pre-sets introduced in the EOS-1D X are also available, helping the capture of traditionally challenging subjects, and providing additional reliability in ituations where subject movement can be unpredictable. Highly accurate exposures are provided by Canon’s acclaimed iFCL metering system, which incorporates a 63-zone Dual-Layer sensor linked to each point of the AF system. Focus information gathered from the AF system is analysed alongside colour and luminance signals measured by the metering sensor itself, enabling the EOS 5D Mark III to deliver consistently accurate skin tones and excellent results in a wide range of shooting situations.

Creative performance without compromise

The EOS 5D Mark III features Canon’s latest DIGIC 5+ image processor, which powers a range of new functions without affecting the camera’s performance. 14-bit A/D conversion provides smoother tonal gradation and transitions between colours, while in-camera HDR shooting combines three different exposures and allows one of five preset tone maps to be applied, enabling photographers to capture all the detail in high contrast scenes. With in-camera RAW processing and editing capability, photographers also have the option to immediately begin post-processing their images while still on a shoot. The increased power of DIGIC 5+ also enables a range of tools which contribute to higher image quality. Lens peripheral illumination correction, Lens chromatic aberration correction (lateral and axial) and high ISO noise reduction are all performed in-camera without affecting performance, allowing photographers to continue shooting without any camera lag. Additionally, in-camera image rating via a dedicated button makes it easy for photographers to organise images ahead of post-production. The EOS 5D Mark III features a new Creative Photo button, which enables users to quickly select Picture Styles and capture multiple exposures, as well as offering direct access to the HDR shooting mode. In playback, pressing the Creative Photo button displays a new comparative playback function, displaying two images side-by-side to allow photographers to view, magnify and compare the quality of different exposures mid-shoot. For situations where photographers want to avoid being noticed, such as weddings, the EOS 5D Mark III also features a new silent shooting mode that dramatically reduces the sound of the shutter and mirror, ensuring they can work quietly in the background. A continuous silent mode is also available, enabling photographers to capture fastermoving subjects without attracting attention.

Next generation EOS Movies

The EOS 5D Mark III builds on the reputation of the EOS 5D Mark II, with a range of new features introduced following feedback received from photographers to provide even better Full HD video performance. As well as offering the depth-of-field control loved by video professionals, the new full-frame sensor combines with the vast processing power of DIGIC 5+ to improve image quality by virtually eradicating the presence of moiré, false colour and other artefacts. The addition of a movie mode switch and a recording button also offers greater usability, enabling videographers to begin shooting immediately when movie mode is engaged. Additional movie functions include manual exposure control and an enhanced range of high bit-rate video compression options, with intraframe (ALL-I) and interframe (IPB) methods both supported. Variable frame rates range from 24fps to 60fps, and the addition of SMPTE timecode support provides greater editing flexibility and easier integration into multi-camera shoots. Users can also check and adjust audio during recording via the camera’s Quick Control screen and a headphone socket enables sound level monitoring both during and after shooting. Enhanced processing power provided by DIGIC 5+ also makes it possible to conveniently trim the length of recorded movies in-camera.

Professional build, easy operation

The EOS 5D Mark III has been built to offer photographers easy-handling and robust build quality. Its lightweight, high-grade magnesium body offers advanced weather proofing for protection against the elements, while the construction of the shutter has also been reinforced, with 150,000-cycle durability making it ideal for repeated, everyday use. An enhanced version of the Intelligent Viewfinder featured in the EOS 7D offers approximately 100% coverage, as well as an on-demand grid display via the builtin transparent LCD. The same reinforced 8.11cm (3.2″) Clear View II LCD screen as used by the EOS-1D X provides high quality framing and playback in all conditions. 1,040k-pixels provide the resolution to accurately check image sharpness and focus, while the gapless structure design introduced with the EOS-1D Mark IV prevents reflections and protects against dust or scratches. A headphone socket and locking mode dial have been included, while the inclusion of a UDMA 7-compatible CF card slot plus an SD card2 slot enables shooting to both cards simultaneously, auto switching when the one in use becomes full and the option to copy images from one card to the other in-camera.

Digital Lens Optimizer – new in Digital Photo Professional v3.11

The EOS 5D Mark III comes complete with the most advanced version of Digital Photo Professional (DPP) yet – Canon’s free, in-box software enabling high-speed, high quality processing of RAW images. New in DPP v3.11 is Digital Lens Optimizer – a revolutionary new tool designed to drastically improve image resolution. Digital Lens Optimizer (DLO) precisely imitates lens performance, with a series of complex mathematical functions replicating each stage of the journey of light through the optical path. Using this information DLO can correct a range of typical optical aberrations and loss of resolution caused by a camera’s low pass filter, by applying an inverse function to each shot to take the image nearer to how the scene appears to the naked eye. This creates exceptionally detailed, high-quality images with highly manageable file sizes, providing photographers with maximum image quality and greater flexibility.

EOS System compatibility

As part of the EOS System, the EOS 5D Mark III is immediately compatible with over 60 EF Lenses, including the EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM – the new, essential wide-angle zoom lens from Canon’s famous L-series. The camera is also compatible with a newlyannounced range of accessories designed to offer extended creativity, including the Speedlite 600EX-RT – a high performance TTL flash with wireless radio connectivity. Additionally, the new Battery Grip BG-E11 offers greater handling flexibility alongside the ability to double the camera’s battery life. Canon EOS 5D Mark III – Key features:

I recently shot an acoustic video with Ed Sheeran. I was given confirmation on the day so I didn’t have to much time to prepare. I called up William Evans, who was more than happy to cover sound and Ellis Powles was free to give a hand assisting with the setup. Unfortunately my lighting plan literally blew up in my face;) My 150watt that I was planning to use as a Back light/kicker, popped instantly so I was left with 2 x 650watt lamps… a 650 is not the greatest light to use as a kicker but with not a lot of time or resources, I had to make do. Once we were set I had 10 minutes with Ed, in which I shot “Give me Love” from two angle’s. I was hoping for four but time was just not there, as he was about to go on stage to perform to 1000′s of screaming fans.
